Compiled by the California Energy Commission and Renewable Energy Development Institute, these lists include information about secured, unsecured, guaranty, and subsidized loan programs.

CEC list of companies financing solar, wind and other energy systems
This list represents companies providing loan assistance to eligible borrowers, though the CEC does not necessarily endorse any of the listed companies. Contact Lynette Esternon at 916-653-2728.

California Energy Commission Energy Efficiency Financing Program
This CEC program will provide very favorable loans for energy efficiency upgrades and renewable energy systems to schools (public or non-profit), hospitals (public or non-profit), cities, counties, special districts, and public care institutions (public or non-profit). The terms are 3.95 percent payable over 15 years. To qualify, the project must be able to pay for itself in 10 years (simple payback) based on reduced energy bills.

SAFE-BIDCO Low Interest Energy Efficiency Business Loans
Loans for businesses that want to finance their solar PV projects. This program is not available for residential projects. Loan terms are:

  • Up to 10 times the annual energy savings value of the project, capped at $50,000. For example, a project that saves $2,000 annually in energy costs will qualify for up to $20,000 in financing.
  • Five years at 4.5% interest rate.
  • Installed system used as collateral.
  • Personal guarantee needed for 20% of loan amount.
